Have I been living in a cave for the past several months or was Darkthrone‘s 16th album Arctic Thunder something of a monumental flop? (Though I have to admit I’m a sucker for the album title which was, for the record, the name of a Norwegian heavy metal band who were active from the mid to the end of the 80’s. I’m also loving the cover art.) Everyone went mental when they put out the teaser Arctic Leech, but then everything seemed to go quiet. Really fucking quiet.
And I think I know why. After Circle The Wagons and The Underground Resistance, Arctic Thunder is just, well, boring. Which is really bloody sad. There was one solid track, the one that’s made it as today’s SOTD – Boreal Fiends. Epic vocals, just the right amount of groove in their with all the ugly crust and some sexy guitar solos – it was fucking hypnotic last minute or so. I wanted it to carry on for another five.
