What Is Wyrd Words & Effigies & What’s It About?
Wyrd Words & Effigies blog is a celebration of life in the shadows and the things we find there. It’s a blog curated by a wyrdo for wyrdos. It’s a path through the dark to wild, forbidden places. A journey across boundaries, which separate this world from others. Wyrd Words & Effigies works to feed into a wider, dark consciousness, and hopefully encourage individual growth, as the moon continues on its path.
The blog functions as a space for the sharing of mine – and others – wyrd life experiences through dark art and writing, experimental and ritualistic music, obscure fashion, the occult, pagan spiritualism, strange literature, nature and everything else in between. It’s my objective for wyrdos to think of this blog as home.
Wyrd Words & Effigies Magazine
Wyrd Words & Effigies Magazine: Issue 1 was launched back in 2014 as a collaboration with Nordland Publishing. I made the decision to theme each issue, and the first explores death, that inevitable dark. You can click on the image below to go to the download link.
About Katie The Creator Of Wyrd Words & Effigies

My name is Katie Metcalfe and I’m an English author, blogger, poet and songwriter. I have a northern fever and am too wyrd for most people.
Wyrd Words & Effigies was established in 2013 to document my strange life, my obsession with everything unsettling and to celebrate, inspire and support fellow shadowy creatives.
I’m the author of several books, including People of the Sea Ice and My Heart Is A Forest, a collection of poems written between 2009 – 2019. I’m also one half of Witch Folk band Cave Mouth.

Hi Katie, I just read your beautiful words and wondered if you might be interested in providing a guest blog for a new online journal called Gothic Nature: New Directions in Ecohorror and the EcoGothic… If you might be, drop me a message at gothicnaturejournal@gmail.com.
