There’s something so special, so truly spooky about this gorgeous illustration by American illustrator and writer Chris Van Allsburg. He created this image for his children’s fantasy novel The Widow’s Broom.

Oh, yes! I have loved Chris Van Allsburg ever since I first saw his work in one of those Time Life Enchanted World books, so many years ago! I actually scanned in the whole story, if you are interested http://unquietthings.com/the-christmas-service-of-the-dead/
