Capturing life as it forms was the enviable role of Peter Chinn, the producer behind National Geographic’s exciting In The Womb : Extreme Animals series. Although they may look real, the images you’re looking were created with the use of 3D ultrasound scans, computer graphics, and nano cameras. The animals themselves were sculpted in wax and clay and cast in silicone, then hand finished so as to show the blood vessels, pigmentation and hair.
Despite the fact they’re not real – technology needs to advance somewhat before we’re capable of capturing animals in the womb in such great detail – doesn’t, however, make them any less precious. I’m especially taken with the wee bats and foal.
