I was a happy kid, but I loved my solitude. I loved sitting by myself with a fat activity book and a bundle of coloured pencils…though the black, purple and red were always the first to be whittled down to stubs as I demonized elephants, clowns and puppies. I was a crossword fanatic and thought dot to dots were magical. (It didn’t take much back then, did it?) I think my little self would have been besotted with The Occult Activity Book : Volume Two and would have worn the temporary esoteric tattoos to school with pride.
