365 Days Of Dark Art : 28 / Jake Wood

The moment I first encountered the work of artist Jake Wood I felt a feeling not too dissimilar to falling. After my initial reaction, I found myself captivated and simultaneously unnerved.

“Evoking faded memories and spectres of a past time, Jake Wood-Evans’ drawings and oil paintings often depict disintegrating and dissolving moments. With a strong focus on craftsmanship, his work takes inspiration from a diverse range of Baroque Old Masters and contemporary figurative painters. Creating ethereal images that are both unsettling and beautiful, Wood-Evans’ powerful use of light emerges from a loose and instinctive application of paint. His oil paintings shimmer with luminous and intense layers of colour as bold marks, dripping oils and scored surfaces sit in company with fine, delicate detail.” – Jake Wood
